Philip Williams is a London based artist working as a painter, printmaker and sculptor. He graduated from Central Saint Martins art school in 2016. Philip is a winner of the Hollyport Prize and the Clyde&Co. Awards. His work has been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions in London, elsewhere in the UK and overseas. His work is held in collections in the UK, China and USA.

Philip’s recent paintings overlay a representational underpainting with a variety of marks made with various materials including spray paint, marker pen and oil crayon. The smooth, blended, almost photographic under-layer contrasts the gestural marks which are freely scribbled, calligraphic and graffiti-like. These marks challenge the coherence of the picture plane resulting in works that sit somewhere between a painting used as a blackboard and a screensaver backdrop to a computer monitor.
